Chrisman Theatre Breaks Tradition to Put on 'Alice in Wonderland'
September 1, 2019

For Chrisman theatre goers planning to attend the annual fall musical, they will be met with a major change - no music.
Instead, the Chrisman Thespians will produce a traditional play as down the rabbit hole they go with the presentation of Alice in Wonderland.
It breaks the tradition of holding a musical in the fall that dates back to 2003.
This play will create challenges, but also new opportunities for more of the students according to theatre teacher Kim Hayes.
“There are so many ways to play the character, we know the gender of some like Alice or the Queen of Hearts, but who's to say that the White Rabbit is a boy or girl,” she said.
Initial auditions were held Tuesday, August 27, and were then followed by call backs.
Alice will be played by Allysia Pirtle.
Others are delighted to see something different for the new year.
“I’m excited because it doesn’t just have people singing like a musical,” said sophomore Ke’ara Burnett.
Alice in Wonderland is a different step for Chrisman. There are some considerations that should be taken in with the “wackiness” and bright colors of Alice in Wonderland according to Arron Johnson, a senior at Chrisman, who’s been in multiple plays before in school.
The play will “Definitely be different and a fun experience. … well received in the school. The cast is amazing,” he said.
The story connects with people with the theme of growing up and moving on into the real world. Alice in Wonderland is the play that will break the tradition of musicals for Chrisman and will create changes for the new year.
