Freshmen Adjust Quickly to New School
Story By: Izzy Jaynes/Editor
Moving up from middle school to high school can be a pretty intimidating experience. TV shows, movies and even sometimes older siblings or friends can often fill the heads of incoming freshman with ideas of what high school would be like and not all of the ideas are good.
Arianna Hobley, freshman, for example thought that the school would be ”filled with rude people.”
Freshman Katherine Turner didn’t really have high expectations either.
“I thought thought that high school would nerve wrecking. I thought I’d get lost and not like it.” said Turner.
Some of the members of the class of 2021 have had more positive expectations for their first year though.
“I knew that it was a big school and I just thought that it would be filled with new people and new opportunities,” said Trinity Myers, who was excited to be entering high school.
While Brandon Doss thought it would be “a pretty normal high school,” one just like any other.
However, after only attending Chrisman for about a week now, many of the freshman have been pleasantly surprised and those with the more positive expectations were proved right.
“Chrisman has been great. It’s really fun and the teachers are great.” said Turner.
“It’s really nice here,” said Gary Barbosa.
These new bears have already began to get involved in the many activities offered to students.
Turner is a member of the JROTC program and even says that that has been one of her favorite parts about getting to be in high school.
Lentrayle Brown has enjoyed getting to play football and getting to meet all the other player on the team.
Although there has been an overall good experience with the newest attendees of Chrisman, there have been some things that the freshman have had to adjust to.
“It’s a lot different going to school with a ton of older people,” said Myers.
Numerous freshman said that they were a little confused on the first day, as they were trying to find their classes.
“The school is really big,” said Barbosa.
However, the freshman were able to lean on the help of friendly staff and students to help them find their way.
With all the positive and negative aspects, the class of 2021 is excited to start their journey through William Chrisman. They are excited to meet new people and make memories, little do they know that these next four years are going to fly by.
