Theatre Puts on Quite a Show With One Acts
Story By: Izzy Jaynes
Excellent, fabulous, and outstanding are all words that have been used to describe the 26th annual One Acts that the theater department put on. Two months of preparation were put in and Opening night was Thursday, April 14 There were also shows that Friday and Saturday night.
The One Acts are very different from other productions that are put on throughout the year. They consist of multiple skits, ranging in theme and content.
The skits that made up the One Acts this year were Hard Candy, Postmortem Merriment, Let’s Try That Again, The Scent of Honeysuckle, Puberty The Game Show, and Just For You. Some were even student written and student directed.
Writer of Let’s Try it again, Leanna Branstetter said “I was really proud of my work. I wrote something that made people react, it made people laugh and that was really cool”
Let’s Try it again was also student directed, by Jose Mendoza.
All For You was the other student written One Act. It was written by senior, Austin Twenter.
“I like to call my job, during preparation for the One Acts, quality control. I make sure that the show the students are doing is of good quality, but the students really get the opportunity to take charge,” Theater teacher Mrs. Hayes said.
“Things were very different this year. There was a lot more emotional skits, last year was mainly comedy based,” said senior Kaila Crosby and many of the other veteran actors agreed with her.
The One Acts caused laughter and even tears, but left all who went entertained and impressed. Students and staff alike gave great reviews.
“Overall, I thought it was excellent. The cast made you feel like you weren’t just watching a performance, the acting was very realistic,” said Coach Rathke.
While freshman Makenzy Magel, said that she “didn’t know what to expect,” since she had not been to the One Acts before, but she thought they were “great and that everyone did a really good job.”
