Photos: Bears Excel as Hosts, Participants at Summa Invitational
Forecasted winter weather, in spring, might have moved the 57th annual Bill Summa Invitational up a day, but it could not cool down the competition as athletes excelled with PRs, medals and top finishes.
The home meet, combined with the Grandview Invitational after moving to Thursday, featured 17 of the top teams in the Kansas City Metro.
That didn’t scare away the Bears as Chrisman track athletes with fished 25 PRs, one school record and five season bests. Both the boys and girls finished sixth as teams in the crowded field. Many Bears medaled as the top four in each event and top three in each relay brought home hardware.
Upperclassmen, for the most part, led the way for the boys. Senior Daniel Carson took second in the shot put and fourth in the discus (PR). Junior Jordon Woods was third in the triple jump.
Junior Tony Hilton broke his PR in the 300m hurdles by more than a second as he finished third and he also was fifth in the long jump. Senior Dan White finished fifth in the 300m hurdles.
Senior Jacob Bennett was fourth in the pole vault and teammate Wyatt Leutzinger, a freshman, was seventh. Sophomore Richard Slaughter was fourth in the high jump.
Junior Aaron Nyaway PR’d in the 1600m to take fifth and he also was eighth in the 800m. Junior Tre Sisco was sixth in the 100m and Junior Nick Puleo was 7th in the discus.
Both the 4x400m and 4x800m relays were fourth.
On the girls’ side, junior Camryn Holloman and freshman Jacque David led the way.
Holloman was second in the triple jump, third in the 200m (PR), and fifth in the 100m. She was also part of the third place 4x400m team with junior Adreal Bell, senior Paris Anderson, and sophomore Meraid Jorgensen.
David PR’d in all three throwing events as she finished second in the discus, sixth in the shot put, and seventh in the javelin. Her sister Jenny David was seventh in the shot put.
Sophomore Reana Lagrone matched her PR as she took second in the pole vault with a season-best jump of 9’. Junior Morgan Bauman was seventh in the event.
Sophomore Kayli Perez and junior Lilly Conner Urnise were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 3200m and sophomore Evelyn Boughan finished eighth with a PR in the 1600m.
The JV Bears are in action on Tuesday at the Raytown South INvitational and varsity will travel to Pitt State for a meet on Friday.
