Lady Bears Bring Home Conference Title
February 28, 2017

Another strong season and a late season push, including key wins down the stretch, helped propel the Chrisman girls’ basketball team to its second Conference title in three years.
“It feels great, we’ve been trying to strive for this goal for four years. Losing to NKC [last year] by one game hurt us, I knew I wanted to come out with a conference title my senior year,” said senior Bri Burns.
Senior Sarah Erickson was also happy with the Championship.
“It’s pretty kick-butt,” she said.
For newcomers to the varsity, it was a new experience, including the must-win games needed to complete the feat.
“First time conference champs for me; it was nerve wracking because we were tied and had to win,” said sophomore Malia Atagi.
The girls believed that there were a few different reasons for the continued success this year.
“Leadership from not only our seniors, but underclassmen as well,” Erickson said.
Atagi said, “We had our ups and downs but we learned how to work. We shared the ball, had good rotation, reduced turnover, and took smart shots.”
Now, the Bears are focused on Districts, which open tonight against Liberty North at Liberty North.
After winning Districts and falling in Sectionals last year, the Bears want to go even further in 2017.
“Trying to strive for state, our ultimate goal was conference and districts. LSN is undefeated and we have the opportunity to beat them,” Burns said.
